Quick Tip for Keeping Cats Indoors
With the Fourth of July just around the corner, it’s even more important to keep cats inside for the day. Not only can fireworks be terrifying, but, as much as we HATE to even type this, sadistic individuals have been known to use cats as a part of the light show. (Shudder.)
From now until the holiday, here’s a quick tip to condition your cat not to run outside when you open the door. For the next few days, go toward the door as if you’re going to leave and open it slightly, without leaving space for the cat to slip through. Every time you do that, toss a treat in the opposite direction.
In the long term, this will help condition the cat to go away from the door when it is opened. In the short term, it will keep the cat safely indoors this Fourth of July.

That is a great tip. Actually just what I was looking for. My indoor cat has been obsessed with going outside for the past two months but he can’t be cause he is not the smartest cat and there are bigger cats and animals that roam the neighborhood. Thanks for the great tip!

Any tips for cats who don’t like treats? I do take my cat outside occasionally, but I don’t want him to think that it’s okay for him to run out whenever the door is opened.
