Cooling Pet Products
Hot weather = hot pets, but petsitters and pet owners still need to make sure pets get enough exercise in these warm months. Since it’s so important to keep Fido cool, here are a few cooling pet products we found.
Cooling Mats / Dog Beds
There are TONS to choose from, so look around a bit online to see which ones you like best. Hard (though cool) surfaces/floors trap heat quickly and can warm up, but cooling dog beds and mats are designed to keep your pets comfortable and cool.
Cooling Bandana
This is one of our favorites. The cooling bandana helps prevent heat exhaustion by cooling the dog with water as it evaporates. There’s also some reflective tape in the design to help your dog be seen at night.
Chilly Bone
This toy hold in the chill, making it great for hot days (and puppies with teething issues). The outside is also coated with a long-lasting vanilla flavor to make it even more appealing to pets.
Paw Protection
This 100% natural wax claims to protect dog’s feet against sandburn and hot asphalt. It’s non-toxic, and it does sound a little more appealing than putting boots on your pup’s paws…
Pet Vest
According to the product description, your pet’s belly is where the most heat collects, which is why this vest looks a little upside-down. It stops the panting by absorbing water and cooling down your pet.

There are also several treats on the market designed to cool your pet in addition to providing a healthy treat. Two I know work well are “Frosty Paws” (dog and cat varieties available), and “Pup Pops.” The first can be found at any supermarket in the ice cream case. The latter, I have only seen at PetSmart. Your pets will appreciate either of these on a hot summer day.

One idea is to fill an ice cube tray with boullion, preferably the low salt kind and let the dogs lick the frozen ice cubes. My dogs love this!!
