20-Minute Pet-Friendly Recipes

With all of your daily responsibilities requiring so much of your attention and effort - get to work, pick up the dry cleaning, walk the dog, finish those emails, prep for that big presentation - it's hard to fathom spending the time cooking a meal... for your pet.
That's why these great 20-minute recipes will be your new best friend (move over, Fido.)!
DOGS
Snuckerpoodles
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup honey
2 eggs
3 3/4 cups white flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Mix the oil, shortening, honey and eggs. Beat well.
- Add to that mixture the flour, cream of tartar and baking soda to form dough. Knead well.
- Shape the dough into balls.
- Mix the cornmeal and cinnamon in a separate bowl, then roll the dough balls into that mixture.
- Place balls two inches apart on a greased cookie sheet and press the balls down with a fork to give them the snickerdoodle look.
- Bake for 5-10 minutes.
Puppy Pops
Chicken broth
Chicken chunks
Tiny bits of dog treats
- Mix all three ingredients together in a bowl.
- Pour the mixture into an ice tray and freeze overnight.
- When serving, put the Puppy Pops into a bowl so Princess doesn't make a wet, royal mess on the floor as they melt.
Bowser Biscuits
3/4 cup flour
1 egg
1 teaspoon peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon honey
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix the peanut butter and honey together and melt (in the microwave) until they are runny.
- Mix the flour, egg, shortening and salt in a separate bowl.
- Add the peanut butter/honey mixture.
- Pour into a pan, into a cupcake pan or onto a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
Doggy Tuna
Tuna
Vinegar (optional)
Dog treats
Dog food
- Crush dog treats.
- Mix the vinegar, dog food and tuna together.
- Sprinkle crushed dog treats over the top.
Doggy Yummies
Dry oats (oatmeal)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup peanut butter
Water
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix flour and peanut butter with some water until you get cookie dough consistency.
- Cut into shapes or balls (don't make them too thick!)
- Sprinkle the cookies with oats.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes.
Puppy Pizza
1 slice of bread
Creamy peanut butter
Bacon bits
Soft dog treat, such as jerky strips
- Take the crust off the bread slice and flatten the bread thinly.
- Spread peanut butter on the bread.
- Shred soft dog treat.
- Generously sprinkle bacon bits and shredded dog treat onto peanut butter.
- Slice into medium-sized pieces.
CATS
Kitty Heaven
2 cans sardines, packed in oil
2/3 cups cooked rice
<2 chicken livers, cooked in water
and drained
1/4 cup chopped parsley
Clothespin
- Put the clothespin on your nose before opening the sardines. They stink.
- Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and mix until blended.
- Store in the refrigerator - tightly covered.
Kitty Kisses
1 can favorite canned cat food
Piping bag with small plain tip OR a Ziploc baggie with a hole cut in a corner
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
- Blend the cat food in a blender until it has the consistency of frosting.
- Set out a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Pour mixture into piping bag or Ziploc baggie.
- Make small "kisses" on parchment paper.
- Bake for about 15 minutes, until relatively dry.
Mackerel Munchies
1/2 cup cannel mackerel, drained
1 cup whole grain bread crumbs
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 egg, beaten
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mash the mackerel with a fork into tiny pieces in a medium-sized bowl.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
- Drop mixture by 1/4 teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 8 minutes.
- Cool to room temperature.
Honey Casserole
1 can tuna
1 teaspoon honey
Cat's favorite food
Additional toppings
- Combine all items.
- Mix well and serve to your cat.
Cat's Delight
1 can tuna (don't drain)
1 can wet cat food
1/2 cup dry cat food
1 carrot, grated
- Combine all items (remember to keep the tuna undrained).
- Mix well and serve to your cat.
